I want to teach music with love, vulnerability, and acceptance. My classroom will be a safe place where all children can unapologetically be themselves. My curriculum will connect to my student’s individual lives and contextualize the music in a way that is valuable to them. My students will thoughtfully and authentically play and sing the music from other cultures and they will feel valued and respected when I teach about their own. I hope to facilitate emotional growth in my students through music. In my music classroom children will gain the tools to practice empathy, process grief, and live joyfully.
” Musical training is a more potent instrument than any other, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul. ”
― Plato
” The only thing better than singing is more singing. ”
― Ella Fitzgerald
” Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.”
― Yo-Yo Ma
